Patti's Big Bend Photography workshop 

Good afternoon, Patti. I am very excited for our Big Bend workshop. I know some incredible locations for us to shoot. 

Below I have outlined our tentative schedule, which includes climatological and astronomical data. 

SCHEDULE

Friday February 17, 2017
Climatological Average High 67F Low 40F

4:00pm - Meet and greet / Help with camera questions.
5:00pm - Dinner (Options Starlight Theatre, Restaurant Rio Bravo, Longdraw Pizza, Big Bend Cafe)
6:00pm - Sunset / Golden hour shoot at Terlingua Ghost Town
6:46pm - Sunset
7:09pm- Last light. Blue hour sets in
8:05pm - Astronomical Twilight. Sky becomes incredibly dark
We will shoot a wide array of locations during this time. You will be given examples and options of locations. The duration of night shooting is up to you until moonrise.  
1:05am - Moonrise. Stars begin to be washed out by Waning Gibbous Moon

8:29am - Golden Hour Ends
9:00am - Editing class

You will leave your workshop with a thorough understanding of what it takes to create breathtaking images of the Milky Way and the night sky. Jason will teach you everything you need to know, from planning your shoots, to successfully capturing your images, and how to bring the images to life with post processing software.

  • Understand the night sky
  • Know how to locate stars and constellations
  • Learn how to properly setup for shooting the night sky
  • Learn how to focus your lens in total darkness. 
  • Learn how to shoot the Milky Way, the Moon, and constellations
  • Learn how to light your foreground with a Speedlight
  • Learn how to reduce noise in your images
  • Learn how to paint with light
  • Create star trail images 
  • Create stunning timelapses
  • Create panoramas of the night sky

HERE IS A LIST OF RECOMMENDED ITEMS

  • A sturdy tripod
  • A camera
  • A wide angle lens 
  • Memory cards totaling at least 64 gigabytes
  • Camera bag that can be easily carried
  • Laptop with access to Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Lightroom
  • Card Reader and/or USB cable
  • Flashlight (recommend a Maglite or similar with high luminescence)
  • A Red Headlamp (available at Walmart)
  • Coat
  • Warm Clothes
  • Snacks
  • Thermos
  • Folding chair
