2014 Storm Chases

June 12, 2014 - Briggs, Texas Tornado

A Slight Risk day with a 5% tornado probability. We targeted the town of Lampasas, Texas and watched the storm initiate from there. Storm motion was to the southwest this day, so we got into the notch and dropped south with the storm.

The cell exhibited marginal supercell structure prior to producing an EF2 tornado at dusk.

May 7, 2014 - Incredible Storm Structure on the Red River

The day was given a Slight Risk by the Storm Prediction Center with a 5% tornado probability along the Red River. We chased a severe warned storm through the Wichita Falls area, which was high based and uninteresting looking, but it was maintaining strength.

As the afternoon wore on, the storm finally tapped into surface moisture and began developing some some solid storm structure. The National Weather Service issued a tornado warning. As the storm approached the small town of Henrietta, Texas it morphed into an otherworldly mesocyclone, but suprosingly fell apart as it passed through the town.

Another storm formed into Oklahoma, and we ended the day watching another tornado warned supercell from Waurika with crazy structure. Neither storm produced a tornado, but with scenes like this, who cares?
